Frequently Asked Questions

How can I become a member?

Please check out our membership page for details

Can I rent firearms?

Penticton Shooting Sports is a club designed for people who already have a firearms license and their own firearms. Many members will be glad to let you try their firearms, but the club does not have firearms to rent. If you would like to obtain your firearms license, please refer to our Training Page for more information. Please be polite and respectful to members if you are trying their firearms. Firearms and ammunition can be very expensive so be sure not to take advantage of their generosity

Can I shoot at Penticton Shooting Sports Whenever I want?

Penticton Shooting Sports is a club not a public shooting range. The land our club exists on is leased and we have an agreement with our landlords that the range is only to be used during designated times and under the supervision of a Penticton Shooting Sports Range Officer. Please refer to the Calendar/Schedule for a list of these times. We have scheduled events all during the week where club members can come shoot their discipline, socialize and share their knowledge and experience with other club members.

Is there any way I can shoot outside of the regular shooting schedule?

Yes, the indoor range, outdoor range and club house may be reserved by contacting the Range Facilities Coordinator. Please keep in mind that outdoor ranges can only be used during available designated times.

What are the designated shooting times?

The indoor range may be used Mon-Sun from 9am-9pm. The outdoor ranges may be used from Mon-Fri 4:40pm – Dusk, and Sat and Sun from 9am-Dusk.

Can I come up and use the range at anytime providing it's within the allowable shooting times?

Yes, providing :

  • you are accompanied by a Penticton Shooting Sports Range Officer.
  • you have made arrangements with the Range Facilities Coordinator.
  • you are not interfering with a weekly scheduled shooting time.

How do I become a Penticton Shooting Sports Range Officer?

Range Officer certification courses will begin in the spring. Once the course is taken you will be required to shadow and be evaluated by an existing Range Officer. Once it is deemed that you can safely command and operat a range, you will be approved and given your Range Officer Certification. As a Range Officer you will be required to volunteer a certain amount of your time each month, if this criteria is not met, you will not be able to maintain your Range Officer status.

Once I'm a Range Officer, can I shoot whenever I want?

Yes, providing :

  • you have made arrangements with the Range Facilities Coordinator.
  • you are not interfering with a weekly scheduled shooting time.
  • You are shooting within the allowable time limits of Club use.

Why do you have so many annoying rules?

Safety is our primary concern. The Rules of our club exist to maintain an exemplary level of safety to ensure that all club members and guest can enjoy their time at the range without having to worry about their safety. There is no grey area when it comes to Range and Firearms Safety.
